Rules, controls and help for Sokoban

Take a moment with Sokoban before moving to another game. Push every crate onto a target. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

A small practice goal

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Notice the feedback after each input.

What the game asks you to do

Push every crate onto a target. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

Controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. Read a button’s label before selecting it. A new-round button replaces the current round.

An example before you play

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Notice the change in the playing area.

An important reminder

Consider the player’s access behind crates. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
