Follow the steps for Canfield Solitaire

Start Canfield Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Look at what changes after your first action. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

One thing to notice as you play

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How to use the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Check any mode label before starting.

Put the rules into context

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
